Comparing Objects: Taller & Shorter, Heavier & Lighter, Full & Empty! 📏⚖️🥛
Welcome, curious scientists! In our everyday lives, we compare objects constantly: who is taller, which bag is heavier, and how much juice fills our cup! Today, we learn the core language of measurement: comparing lengths from a baseline (taller than and shorter than), comparing masses on a balance scale (heavier than and lighter than), and assessing capacity (full, empty, and holds more).
📏 Measuring Length
• Line up objects at the exact same starting point.
• Taller than 🦒: The giraffe is taller than the deer.
• Shorter than 🐢: The eraser is shorter than the pencil.
⚖️ Measuring Weight
• We use a two-pan balance scale.
• Heavier than 🐘: The watermelon is heavier and tilts down.
• Lighter than 🪶: The feather is lighter and rises up.
🥛 Measuring Capacity
• Full: Container is filled with liquid to its top rim.
• Empty: Container holds no liquid inside.
• Holds More: A large pitcher holds more water than a teacup.
