Forces in Action: Pushing, Pulling, and Gravity ⚽🛒
Welcome, junior scientists of Primary 2! Look around your classroom: desks, chairs, books, and toy cars do not move on their own. They need a 'force' to set them in motion! A force is a push or a pull acting upon an object. When you kick a soccer ball toward the goal or push a grocery cart forward, you are using a 'push force' to move things away from you. When you pull open a desk drawer or play tug-of-war, you are using a 'pull force' to bring things closer. There is also an invisible downward pull from the Earth called 'gravity'!
🚀 Push Force
A push moves an object away from you:
- ⚽ Kicking a soccer ball across the grass.
- 🛒 Pushing a shopping cart at the market.
- 🚪 Pushing a classroom door to close it.
🪢 Pull Force
A pull moves an object closer to you:
- 🪢 Pulling a rope during tug-of-war.
- 🗄️ Pulling a drawer open to take out a notebook.
- 🧳 Pulling a wheeled suitcase behind you.
