Smart Shopper: Egyptian Banknotes, Buying, and Change 💵🛒
Money is an essential tool we use to buy food, books, clothes, and medicines, as well as to donate and save! In our beloved country Egypt, our national currency is the 'Egyptian Pound' (abbreviated as LE). Our money comes in coins and paper banknotes: 1 LE, 5 LE, 10 LE, 20 LE, 50 LE, and 100 LE! Today, we learn how to decompose larger bills into smaller bills, calculate the total cost when buying items, and compute the exact change the cashier returns to us!
💵 Egyptian Banknotes & Decompositions
- 🪙 5 LE: Five 1 LE coins or notes.
- 💵 10 LE: Two 5 LE notes, or ten 1 LE coins.
- 💶 20 LE: Two 10 LE notes, or four 5 LE notes.
- 💷 50 LE: Two 20 LE notes + one 10 LE note.
- 💎 100 LE: Two 50 LE notes, or five 20 LE notes, or ten 10 LE notes!
🛒 Calculating Costs and Change
- 🛒 Total Cost (Addition): Add the prices of all items purchased.
- 💰 Change Returned (Subtraction): Amount paid to cashier minus Total Cost = Change.
- 🐖 Saving: Keeping a portion of our allowance in a piggy bank for future goals.
