March 15, 2025. Dear diary, Today, Grandpa told me amazing stories about our community's history. Fifty years ago, our neighborhood was very different! Where our big supermarket stands now, there was a beautiful old market with wooden stalls. People sold fresh fruits and vegetables every morning.
15 مارس 2025. مذكراتي العزيزة، اليوم روى لي جدي قصصًا مدهشة عن تاريخ مجتمعنا. قبل خمسين عامًا، كان حيّنا مختلفًا تمامًا! فحيث يقع السوبرماركت الكبير الآن، كان هناك سوق قديم جميل بأكشاك خشبية، وكان الناس يبيعون الفواكه والخضروات الطازجة كل صباح.
The tall buildings weren't here then. Instead, there were small houses with beautiful gardens. Everyone knew their neighbors, and children played safely in the streets. There was even a small train station where our park is now!
لم تكن المباني الشاهقة موجودة حينها، بل كانت هناك بيوت صغيرة محاطة بحدائق جميلة. وكان الجميع يعرفون جيرانهم، وكان الأطفال يلعبون بأمان في الشوارع. بل كانت هناك محطة قطار صغيرة حيث تقع حديقتنا الآن!
Grandpa showed me old photos. I saw the old school that still stands today. He said people helped to build it together many years ago. It makes me proud to know our community has such a rich history. Yours truly, Hana.

In phonics, /f/ is a voiceless sound where vocal cords do not vibrate (fish, frog, factory, flag). In contrast, /v/ is a voiced sound where vocal cords vibrate (van, violin, view, vest). In word formation, prefixes like dis-, il-, and ir- change words to their opposites: like ➔ dislike, honest ➔ dishonest, legal ➔ illegal, logical ➔ illogical, regular ➔ irregular, responsible ➔ irresponsible.
في الصوتيات، صوت /f/ صوت مهموس لا تهتز معه الحبال الصوتية (fish, frog, factory, flag)، بينما صوت /v/ صوت مجهور تهتز معه الحبال الصوتية (van, violin, view, vest). وفي تكوين الكلمات، البادئات dis- و il- و ir- تحول الكلمات إلى أضدادها: مثل like تصبح dislike، و honest تصبح dishonest، و legal تصبح illegal، و regular تصبح irregular.
