Discovering Teen Numbers: 11 to 15 with Ten-Frames! 🔟✨
Welcome back, brilliant young mathematicians! Today, we explore a wonderful new number family: the teen numbers! When we have a full ten-frame with 10 stars and add 1 more star, we make eleven (11)! With two more stars, we make twelve (12)! Let us count, build, and discover numbers up to 15 together with fun visual games!
🌟 Building Numbers 11 to 15
Every teen number is made of one full group of 10 plus extra ones:
- ⭐ 11 (Eleven): 10 + 1 (one ten and one one)
- ⭐ 12 (Twelve): 10 + 2 (one ten and two ones)
- ⭐ 13 (Thirteen): 10 + 3 (one ten and three ones)
- ⭐ 14 (Fourteen): 10 + 4 (one ten and four ones)
- ⭐ 15 (Fifteen): 10 + 5 (one ten and five ones)
🎯 Using the Ten-Frame
A ten-frame is a grid of 10 boxes. When it is completely full, we know it is 10 instantly! To show 14, we fill one full ten-frame and place 4 counters in a second frame. This gives us visual fluency!
